Twitter to Have a Paid Subscription Plan?

The news rumor mill is ripe again!

How would a social network make money? Either sell user info for targeted ads aka the Facebook model or make it a paid subscription like Medium. The problem with targeted ads is that to make them really work the company has to collect a lot of user info. Facebook has sort of mastered that and their revenue is soaring. Also, advertisers would want to focus on social networks that give them a bang for their buck. All this means there is only so much ad revenue that Twitter can target. So, it’s no surprise that their plans of a paid revenue model are in limelight… again (the news was well-reported in the summer of 2020)!

“Bloomberg sources claim the social network is exploring subscriptions and even tipping to reduce its dependence on targeted ads. Multiple ideas are reportedly under consideration, including a mysterious “Rogue One” subscription, charging extra for Tweetdeck, or commanding a premium for features like advanced profile customization.
